The first midweek round of the German Bundesliga is a tricky one for punters to negotiate with the best value win bet being Ingolstadt to get the better of Hamburg on Tuesday.
Ingolstadt has made a remarkable start to its first German Bundesliga campaign, winning each of its three away matches 1-0. And while Ingolstadt has accrued only one point from its first two German Bundesliga home games, its first couple of visitors were the pre-season second and third favourites, Dortmund and Wolfsburg. One was not sure about Ingolstadt’s ability to retain its hard-fought German Bundesliga status but the Schanzer deserve credit for their early results.
Hamburg has derived seven points from its first five German Bundesliga matches but one has to question the merit of its form. Hamburg kicked off the German Bundesliga season with a 0-5 loss at Bayern Munchen and its most recent league game resulted in a 0-0 home draw with Frankfurt. Hamburg’s two German Bundesliga victories have been at the expense of Monchengladbach and Stuttgart, the division’s only two pointless sides. It could be the case that Hamburg is flattered by its position on the middle of the German Bundesliga ladder. Certainly one does not trust Hamburg.
Ingolstadt is trading at odds of +135 with sister bookmakers 888Sport and Unibet to put a smile on the faces of its fans with its maiden German Bundesliga home success, while the same firms are offering odds of -149 about the Schanzer on the more conservative draw-no-bet market.
Sticking with Tuesday’s German Bundesliga action and one thinks that Koln is overpriced to get something out of its visit to Hertha. Bet365 is offering odds of -149 about Koln in receipt of a one-goal start and that makes one’s short list in light of a recent collateral form line.
Both Hertha and Koln have encountered Stuttgart in the first five German Bundesliga rounds and, while both the Old Lady and the Billy Goats posted wins over the Reds, the latter’s victory was more much emphatic. Hertha registered a narrow 2-1 German Bundesliga home win over Stuttgart, whereas Koln recorded a 3-1 league away defeat of the same opponent.
There is a good chance that Koln’s fifth place on the German Bundesliga ladder is misleading because the Billy Goats have beaten just Hamburg, Monchengladbach and Stuttgart but their form arguably reads better than that of Hertha, which is why one is interested in backing them not to lose in Berlin.
Finally, the same bet appeals as the way to get stuck into Wednesday’s German Bundesliga match between Schalke and Frankfurt. The same bookmaker is offering odds of +115 about Frankfurt getting a one-goal head start from Schalke in Gelsenkirchen.
There are a couple of points that one would like to make. First, Wolfsburg is the common German Bundesliga foe that Schalke and Frankfurt have encountered this term. Schalke lost 0-3 at Wolfsburg two German Bundesliga rounds after Frankfurt has gone down 1-2 at the home of the Wolves. So the German Bundesliga collateral form favours Frankfurt over Schalke. And second, Schalke’s participation in the UEFA Europa League may be about to start catching up with it. Schalke’s German Bundesliga home game versus Frankfurt will be its fourth assignment across all competitions in 12 days and included in that program was a trip to Cyprus to play APOEL. In the circumstances, one would rather be a layer of Schalke than a backer of the Royal Blues at their short odds. It is does not hurt, either, that Frankfurt took four points from last season’s two German Bundesliga clashes.
