Similar Sides Both Set to Score Goals in Leverkusen

Spurs won their last Champions League away game at CSKA Moscow.

Both teams to score in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League Group E match between Leverkusen and Tottenham is the best bet on the card as Europe’s premier club tournaments resumes.

The wager leaps off the UEFA Champions League coupon at decent odds and there is nothing wrong with backing the obvious when there are generous prices on offer. Leverkusen and Tottenham are similar sides – both of them like to press high up the field – and the result is likely to be a game in which there are lots of mistakes. That is what happens when the pressure is relentless.

Leverkusen has scored in nine of its 10 games across all competitions and there has not been a clean sheet in seven of those matches. Leverkusen is a team that looks much more comfortable on the front foot rather than defending and it needs a positive result at home after drawing its first two UEFA Champions League Group E games versus CSKA Moskva and Monaco. Tottenham has found the back of the net in each of its 11 competitive matches and, while Spurs have managed to keep five clean sheets, the probability of them shutting out Leverkusen decreased when Toby Aldeweireld limped off during their 1-1 English Premier League draw at West Bromwich.

One is expecting a reaction from Leverkusen after its coach, Roger Schmidt, went ballistic following Saturday’s 1-2 German Bundesliga loss at Bremen and Tottenham would have beaten West Bromwich at The Hawthorns if Baggies goalkeeper Ben Foster had not had a blinder, particularly early on. Both teams to score is available at odds of -135  with 188Bet.

Another UEFA Champions League game in which one thinks that both sides to score is Tuesday’s Group F match between Sporting and Dortmund. The option is available at odds of -154   and that price is worth snapping up.

Sporting has rustled the onion bag in each of its 10 games across all tournaments, including taking the lead against the run of play when it visited Real Madrid in the opening batch of UEFA Champions League matches. Dortmund has not kept a clean sheet in any of its last seven games and BVB have an injury list that reads like a busy night in the emergency room of a major city hospital. One fancies Sporting to score and, with Dortmund trading as a fair favourite, one expects BVB to get off the mark as well.

Finally, one cannot resist odds of -105  with Betfred about the reigning English Premier League title holder putting the Danish Superliga equivalent to the sword on home soil.

Leicester is struggling down on the 13th rung on the English Premier League but it is worth bearing in mind that the Foxes have hosted Arsenal and visited Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea. The English Premier League fixture computer has not been kind to Leicester and, while one does not envisage the Foxes challenging for honours this season, they may be better than their divisional ranking suggests.

Much is being made of Kobenhavn being undefeated in its last 23 matches but it has not won any of its most recent three UEFA Champions League road games and they have been versus Astra, APOEL and Porto. One does not subscribe to the view that Kobenhavn is on a par with Leicester and one rates the Foxes as worthy of support on the continental stage.
