Schalke and Wolfsburg to score in Gelsenkirchen

schalke

BetVictor is offering odds of -161  that both teams score in the German Bundesliga game between Schalke and Wolfsburg, making that betting option the best on the weekend list.

One cannot get excited about Wolfsburg at favourite odds even though the Wolves have strung together eight straight wins across three competitions and one is unconvinced that Roberto Di Matteo is the right man of the Schalke job.

But one can get excited about both sides to score at the Veltins Arena given that usually Schalke is good for at least one goal at home and usually one can count on Wolfsburg to hit the back of the net wherever it plays.

Schalke has scored in each of its seven home matches across all competitions this season and it has kept only two clean sheets in those games. Some sections of the German media is praising Di Matteo for improving Schalke’s defence since he succeeded Jens Keller but the 04ers have managed just two shut outs in their six domestic and international matches under the man who led Chelsea to UEFA Champions League glory. They must be watching a different Schalke side.

Wolfsburg has scored in 10 of its 11 German Bundesliga games and, had the Wolves hit the back of the net away to Hertha in the fifth round of matches, their league scoring run would be 37 games and counting. Three consecutive German Bundesliga clean sheets have knocked Wolfsburg’s numbers regarding both teams to score but the Wolves are still in the good books of punters who like betting on the market. And, seriously, Wolfsburg cannot keep shutting out sides.

Monchengladbach eliminated Frankfurt from the German DFB Pokal three and a half weeks ago and that was in spite of playing on the road. Monchengladbach has home advantage for its German Bundesliga game versus Frankfurt and one thinks that the host is attractive at odds of -213  with Bwin.

To put it bluntly, Frankfurt is conceding too many goals to be anything other than opposable away to a Monchengladbach team that boasts both an excellent home record and a recent head-to-head victory over its German Bundesliga opponent.

Monchengladbach is undefeated in its last 13 home matches across all competitions – eight wins and five draws – and both it and Frankfurt has encountered Bayern Munchen in the last three German Bundesliga rounds. Monchengladbach drew 0-0 at home to Bayern Munchen, whereas Frankfurt lost 0-4 at home to Bayern. So everything points to a Monchengladbach victory over Frankfurt and a comprehensive one at that.

Finally, Koln’s form is sufficiently strong for it to be over the odds at +120  with BetVictor to take care of business against Hertha in the German Bundesliga.

Koln won a seven-goal thriller at Hoffenheim just before the German Bundesliga’s break for international football, a win that lifted the newly promoted side to 10th on the ladder, an excellent effort when one considers that it scored in only one of its first six games back among the elite.

Hertha will travel to Koln off the back of several mediocre performances and results and the Berlin-based team’s road numbers make particularly distressing reading for its fans. Had Ronny – his real name is Ronny Heberson Furtado de Araujo – not scored in stoppage time at Freiburg to salvage a 2-2 draw for Hertha it would have lost each of its five German Bundesliga away matches. Also worth noting is that Hertha crashed out of the German DFB Pokal on penalties to third-tier Bielefeld after an extra-time goalless draw.
