Juventus to beat Olympiakos in low-scoring win to nil

One is tipping Juventus to rise to the occasion when its UEFA Champions League dream goes on the line in its home match against Group A rival Olympiakos on Tuesday.

Given the state of the UEFA Champions League Group A ladder after three rounds, which has Juventus three points behind Atletico Madrid and Olympiakos having lost in both Spain and Greece, it is imperative that Juve beats their Greek guest, ideally taking the lead in the head-to-head series that may end up determining which team qualifies for the last 16.

One thinks that Olympiakos, which has failed to score in three of its last four away games across all competitions and lost each of its last three UEFA Champions League road matches, will try to frustrate Juventus from the kick off. Olympiakos would kill for a 0-0 draw and even a 0-1 loss would not be the end of the world when one remembers that Juventus lost 0-1 in the reverse fixture two weeks ago.

Juventus is odds against to beat Olympiakos without leaking a goal but one thinks that there is a smarter way to attack the UEFA Champions League Group A game as Juve attempts to extend its unbeaten home run to 36 matches. Juventus has won 30 and drawn five of its 35 home games since losing 0-2 to Bayern Munchen in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals two seasons ago, winning 20 of those matches to nil. But Juventus has only scored more than three goals in four of its last 35 home games and it had a numerical advantage in two of those matches. BetVictor is offering odds of +550 , +500  and +800  about Juventus 1-0, 2-0 and 3-0 respectively and a dutched bet on those options generates odds of +132 . Throw in 0-0 at odds of +1300  with the same bookmaker and the dutched bet produces a wager at odds of -101 .

Real Madrid spanked Liverpool at Anfield and there is no reason to think that the UEFA Champions League Group B game between the Meringues and the Reds at the Santiago Bernabeu will be any different, such is the form of the two sides.

Backing Real Madrid to cover one-goal handicaps has been a licence to print money in recent weeks – the Meringues have won 10 of their last 11 matches by two or more goals – and odds of -161  with several bookmakers, including Bet365Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, appeal about that sequence becoming 11 from 12. The score could get very ugly very quickly if Real Madrid opens the scoring because Liverpool will have to chase an equalising goal given the state of the UEFA Champions League Group B ladder. Also, the reality is that a heavy defeat is unlikely to cause greater harm to Liverpool’s chance of qualifying for the knockout stage than a light defeat because of the rules that UEFA employs.

Finally, the dynamics of the UEFA Champions League games at Arsenal, Dortmund and Manchester City mean that one should expect each of them to be relatively high scoring. If one had to pick one of them to go over two and a half goals for betting purposes it would be Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League Group D match against Galatasaray. Realistically, Galatasaray must win each of its remaining three games to stand a chance of reaching the UEFA Champions League last 16 and it got torn to pieces by Dortmund two weeks ago, BVB running out 4-0 winners after leading 3-0 at half time.

Bwin is offering odds of -238  that the UEFA Champions League Group D match between Dortmund and Galatasaray goes over two and a half goals, while odds of +105  are available from many bookmakers, including Bwin and Unibet, about the Signal Iduna Park game going over three and a half goals.
