Stuttgart is odds on in one place to take out the German 2. Bundesliga title but one cannot rate the Reds from the state of Baden-Wurttemberg above their namesakes from Lower Saxony with 16 rounds of the competition to go. Hannover, Stuttgart and Braunschweig are level on 35 German 2. Bundesliga points but one’s favourite Reds – Hannover – lead the way on goal difference.
Hannover is back in the German 2. Bundesliga for the first time since it won the second-tier tournament in 2002 after its bitterly disappointing top-flight campaign last term. Hannover’s German 2. Bundesliga form was up and down during the first few months of the season but the Reds have really clicked since late October, posting 5-3-0 numbers in their last eight divisional matches, including a couple of very impressive results. Hannover drew 2-2 at Braunschweig in November, fighting back from 0-2 down to its traditional rival to level the ledger midway through the second half. And Hannover triumphed 2-1 at Stuttgart two weeks before Christmas, again bouncing back from conceding the opening goal and hitting the front before its host had Timo Baumgartl sent off during the final few minutes.
So not only does Hannover lead the German 2. Bundesliga way but also the Reds have visited their highest ranked foes – they will welcome second-placed Stuttgart, third-placed Braunschweig and fourth-placed Union Berlin to their HDI-Arena home before the regular season is complete.
Hannover ascended to the top of the German 2. Bundesliga on Monday and one is willing to back the Reds at odds of +250 with many bookmakers, including 888Sport and Bet365, to finish the season at the summit of the standings.
Stuttgart is a classic false favourite at general odds of around +100 to win the German 2. Bundesliga championship. Stuttgart has accrued just four German 2. Bundesliga points from its seven games against fellow top-eight teams – the Reds lost 1-2 at home to Hannover, won 2-0 at home to Braunschweig, drew 1-1 at Union Berlin, lost 0-5 at Dynamo Dresden, lost 1-2 at home to Heidenheim and lost 0-3 at Wurzburger Kickers. Are you still interested in backing Stuttgart at relatively short German 2. Bundesliga odds?
Braunschweig made the early German 2. Bundesliga running but the pressure appears to have got to the Lions, not least because Hannover is one of its title rivals. Braunschweig has not graced the German Bundesliga since the mid 1980s, whereas Hannover and Stuttgart are top-flight regulars so the two Reds may be better versed in handling the level of expectation that comes with a prolonged promotion campaign.
The next round of German 2. Bundesliga matches sees Hannover visit to Greuther Furth, Stuttgart host Fortuna Dusseldorf and Braunschweig entertain St Pauli. Not until early March will two of the German 2. Bundesliga top three lock horns again when Braunschweig faces Stuttgart in Round 23.
Hannover is overpriced at odds of +250 to win the German 2. Bundesliga because the Reds should be trading at around the +125 mark, in front of Stuttgart at odds of around +160 .
