Eibar to lose another heavyweight encounter
Three points from its visit to Eibar are a must if Atletico Madrid wants to stay in touch with Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of the Spanish Primera Division and one thinks that the champion is the best bet on this weekend’s list.
Eibar has been one of the Spanish Primera Division’s success stories this term and, if any team is going to respect that, it is Atletico Madrid, the side that no-one outside its inner circle thought would win last season’s title. Eibar occupies eight spot on the Spanish Primera Division ladder after 20 rounds, a tremendous achievement for the promoted team. Eleven points clear of the Spanish Primera Division relegation zone, Eibar’s top-flight status looks secure.
But that is where one’s Eibar love in ends. Atletico Madrid and Eibar have played every other Spanish Primera Division side and one’s view is that 10 of those 18 collateral form lines favour the Mattress Makers, four favour the Gunsmiths and four favour neither team. And then, arguably of greater importance, there is Eibar’s numbers against the Spanish Primera Division’s heavyweights. Eibar has played seven Spanish Primera Division matches versus sides positioned above it on the ladder for zero wins, two draws, five losses, three goals for and 13 goals against, including going down 1-2 at Atletico Madrid five months ago.
Several bookmakers, including BetVictor and WilliamHill, are offering odds of -161 that Atletico Madrid beats Eibar and keeps alive its feint hopes of going back to back in the Spanish Primera Division. One thinks that Atletico Madrid cannot afford to drop more than three points between now and the end of the campaign if it wants to have a real chance of overtaking both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
It is difficult to hold a strong opinion about a draw in any football game, with perhaps the exception being a match in which one thinks that neither team will score. However, one is willing to go out on a limb and say that the draw is the value play in the Spanish Primera Division game between Almeria and Getafe, so evenly matched are the two sides.
Almeria and Getafe have had 18 common Spanish Primera Division opponents and one’s view is that 10 of those collateral form lines favour neither team, three favour the Red and Whites and five favour the Deep Blues. To put that into some context, no other Spanish Primera Division match in the 21st round has more than four collateral form ties.
Getafe defeated Almeria 1-0 when the sides clashed in the Spanish Primera Division second round so one would expect there to be little between the teams based on that result alone. BetVictor is offering odds of +225 about Almeria and Getafe sharing the Spanish Primera Division spoils on Sunday, with the same bookmaker offering dutched odds of +284 that the game results in either a 0-0 or 1-1 draw.
Sociedad is one of the three Spanish Primera Division teams that has beaten Real Madrid this term but one thinks that the Meringues will gain ample revenge on Saturday. Real Madrid and Sociedad have had 17 common Spanish Primera Division opponents and one’s view is that 15 of those collateral form lines favour the Meringues so they are banker material at odds of -500 with many bookmakers, including Ladbrokes and PaddyPower.
