Dortmund and both teams to score is the best value wager in the fifth round of German Bundesliga matches, with sister bookmakers 888Sport and Unibet offering odds of 3.15 that BVB beat Leverkusen but do not keep a clean sheet.
It has been a joy to watch Dortmund start life under Thomas Tuchel, scoring goals and winning games for fun. Prior to Dortmund’s UEFA Europa League Group C match versus Krasnodar on Thursday, BVB had won each of their first 10 games under Tuchel, scoring 36 goals and conceding nine goals. Dortmund has been football entertainment central and one can only see Sunday’s German Bundesliga match between two of the league’s most enterprising sides being action packed. Leverkusen may have been a bit hit and miss so far this season but Bayer boss Roger Schmidt is committed to applying pressure to opponents and one can bet one’s bottom dollar that he will tell his players to fight fire with fire against Dortmund.
One has no doubt that Dortmund will be a popular German Bundesliga pick at odds on to defeat Leverkusen and keep pace with Bayern Munchen at the top of the ladder but one does not want to take short odds about BVB versus one of the division’s genuine heavyweights. Leverkusen will not die wondering and Schmidt will have a plan or two for how his team can take advantage of Dortmund’s defensive weaknesses. One thinks that Dortmund will prevail in the game of the German Bundesliga round but one would rather have a bet at odds against in the circumstances. A high-scoring Dortmund victory does seem like the most probable match result, and it also helps keep out tip on Dortmund from pre-season right on track.
Talking of high-scoring German Bundesliga games, the match between Hamburg and Frankfurt on Saturday appeals as a good candidate for a bet on over two and a half goals at odds of -154 with Marathonbet. All four of Hamburg’s German Bundesliga games have gone over two and a half goals, while Frankfurt’s 1-1 home draw with Augsburg is the only one of its four league matches that has not broken through the line.
Last season, no German Bundesliga side’s home matches went under two and a half goals more than those of Hamburg but, even so, HSV’s game versus Frankfurt on its own turf served up three goals. Also, Frankfurt defeated Hamburg 2-1 in the reverse German Bundesliga fixture to complete the double.
Finally, one’s third German Bundesliga betting selection was a toss up between Koln to beat Monchengladbach on Saturday and Augsburg to beat Hannover on Sunday. What got Augsburg over the line was, in a word, Hannover – one is keen to lay the Reds at every opportunity because they are bound for Germany’s second division unless they improve their roster and replace their manager, Michael Frontzeck, quickly.
Augsburg has the inconvenience of a UEFA Europa League date with Athletic in Spain on Thursday and it is level with Hannover on one German Bundesliga point after four rounds, plus the Reds defeated the Fuggerstadter at home and away in last term’s league clashes. However, Augsburg did finish the German Bundesliga in fifth place and Hannover has regressed sharply from the team that ended up in 13th position.
Several bookmakers, including BetVictor and Ladbrokes, are listing odds of +100 about Augsburg posting its first German Bundesliga victory of the season when Hannover travels south on Sunday. One feels that any German Bundesliga side merits serious consideration at even money for three points at home to a Hannover team in big trouble.
