2016 BCS National Championship Futures Odds & Picks
We’re inching closer to the start of the 2015-16 college football season.
The first games will be played within weeks and the anticipation is intensifying.
We’re going to take a look at the top contenders to win the 2016 BCS National Championship, along with the latest futures odds in the outright winners market.
Can the Ohio State Buckeyes Repeat as Champions?
- Ohio State Buckeyes +300 to Win the Championship at GTBets
The preseason polls all have the Buckeyes at the top and the bookies agree. OSU are 3/1 to win consecutive National Championships and for good reason – they bring back a lot of players.
Urban Meyer is turning the Buckeyes into a powerhouse.
Ezekiel Elliot is back at RB, JT Barrett and Cardale Jones are battling it out at QB, plus it has been announced that Braxton Miller will line-up as a playmaker on the field instead of QB this season.
This offense is going to be unreal and the defense will be good enough.
Anything short of an appearance in the CFB playoffs would be a disappointment. Once they get to the playoffs, anything can happen, but the Buckeyes will make it that far again.
Top Contenders to Win the 2016 College Football Championship
- Alabama Crimson Tide +750 to Win the Championship at BetOnline
Alabama are #2 in preseason polls. This team is stacked like usual, but Nick Saban and the Tide may have their worst season in awhile. The defense will be fine, but the offense has questions.
Can Bama replace Amari Cooper at WR and their QB in the same year? Derrick Henry will need to have a big load on his shoulders, especially early in the season.
With a tough schedule and a questionable offense – I won’t be betting Bama.
- TCU Horned Frogs +950 to Win the Championship at 5Dimes
The Horned Frogs almost made it into the CFB playoff last year and this season the bookies like TCU to make it. QB Trevone Boykin is back and a Heisman Trophy candidate.
TCU may arguably have the best offense in the nation. They have a run game with Aaron Green returning and Boykin may emerge as the best QB in the country this season.
Expect TCU to play with a chip on their shoulder and contend for a playoff spot.
- Auburn Tigers +1000 to Win the Championship at Bovada
Auburn had a rough go last season, but expectations are up for the Tigers. Will Muschamp is in at DC and he’ll have his hands full trying to turn this defense into a feared unit.
Most of the defense remains in tact, so he has experienced players to work with.
Auburn should employ a balanced offense that will likely lean to the power run game, as they have one of the best duos in the country, plus an o-line with exceptional depth.
- USC Trojans +1400 to Win the Championship at GTBets
I’m a believer in the Trojans this year. USC went under the radar last year, but they had one of the top offenses in the country and return most players, including QB Cody Kessler.
Nelson Agholor is in the NFL, but the Trojans have a lot of depth at WR.
The problem with USC is the defense, especially after losing a couple key pieces. No one knows how this defense will look at the start of the season and a couple losses would kill their year.
- Florida State Seminoles +1600 to Win the Championship at BetOnline
The Seminoles made the inaugural playoffs last season, but they’re not expected to make it this year now that Jamies Winston is in the NFL. Replacing him will be extremely tough.
FSU is going to have to lean more on the run game this season and that won’t be enough to get them back into the playoffs. The defense is strong upfront, but may struggle through the air.
There’s a nice price on Florida State, but I recommend looking elsewhere.
The Buckeyes are the most likely champion, but 3/1 doesn’t get me interested when my money is going to be locked up for months. With the new playoff – we can hunt for a bit more value.
I really like TCU, but they don’t get enough respect and a loss would basically send them packing again. I’m betting on the USC Trojans to win the 2016 BCS National Championship Game.
