Website

When landing on the FortunaWin Sports website, customers are greeted with three graphics, one pertaining to the bookmaker, and the other two to the casino and the casino welcome bonus.

A black and yellow theme is adopted. When accessing the bookmaker, the list of sports can be found on the left hand side of the page, with an option to search for bets by starting time or by odds range. When clicking on a sport, a jumbled list of sub markets can be found. This is poorly designed and makes it difficult to quickly find a specific match/game/event and without a search bar on the page.

The centre of the page plays host to a number of sliding graphics with odds for forthcoming highlighted events. The games are listed as 102 instead of 1X2 and there are also other odds for the same games, listed as 10-02-12. There is no indication as to what the conditions are for these bets which is another issue which needs addressing.

The bet slip can be found on the left hand side of the page, and this is probably the website’s only decent feature. Customers can have up to 4 different bet slips at one time, flicking between the different combinations seamlessly. Most websites only allow one betting slip, so this is a nice touch.

There is a statistics section which is powered by Betradar .and covers a wide range of sports, offering extensive data which can help punters make informed decisions.

There is a mobile betting section, where customers can access their FortunaWin Sports accounts while on the move. Anyone with an iOS or Android device can visit m.fortunawin.com from their mobile phone and bet on the move.

Languages

The website can be viewed in Hungarian, English or Croatian.

Markets

FortunaWin have a very limited number of sports on offer. In total there are ten – a paltry number compared by industry standard. Naturally, football, ice hockey, tennis, basketball and American football are covered, but they are only accompanied by snooker, boxing, alpine skiing, handball and volleyball. To put this into context, industry giants Bet365 offer 33 disciplines, Coral 31 and a comparable bookmaker FavBet, have 17.

When looking at the football, the list of the different leagues is poorly organised, but eventually upon discovering the English Premier League, there are around 65 additional bet types for each market. This is by no means terrible and compares reasonably well with other similar sized companies. International tournaments such as the African Cup of Nations are covered, with group games, outright winner and top scorer markets available. There is also some ante-post betting for the domestic competition, with the ‘winner of the season’ (poorly translated website) odds available for Poland and Czech Republic (but none of the top European leagues)

As FortunaWin Sports predominantly serve Central and Eastern Europe, it is no surprise to see that the ice hockey markets encompass many of the leagues around Europe, in addition to the premier competition – the NHL. Odds for games from Belarus, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Norway, Austria, Slovakia and Sweden are listed, as well as matches from the MHL, with up to 55 additional bet types for the top leagues (Finland, Czech Republic etc.). This is definitely one of FortunaWin’s selling points.

The basketball fayre is limited and the American football markets are poor when compared to the vast majority of online competition.

Odds

To assess the competitiveness of FortunaWin’s odds, it is best to look at their book percentages over a range of sports. A book percentage refers to the number the accumulative total of all the odds in an event equate to, when expressed as percentages. If the bookmaker were offering completely fair odds with no inbuilt profit margin in their prices, then their book percentage would be 100%.

Comparing against a cross section of firms in the industry gives an indication of FortunaWin’s position in the marketplace in terms of competitiveness. Looking at the football odds and the English Premier League match between QPR v Manchester United, we can see:

  • Ladbrokes – 105.1%
  • FortunaWin – 105.3%
  • SkyBet – 106.8%
  • Bwin – 106.8%

The figures are quite positive for FortunaWin. Their odds are not as generous as Ladbrokes, but beat established firms Skybet and Bwin in the returns for customers. (The same book percentage was found across the range of sports)

Next, it makes sense to analyse the odds for a sport where FortunaWin have good coverage – ice hockey. The MHL, Salzburg v Riga match was used for comparison:

  • Ladbrokes – 107.2%
  • SkyBet – 109.9%
  • Bwin – 110.2%
  • FortunaWin 1%

Not quite such good figures here, which is surprising as ice hockey is the sport that has the largest relative attention paid to it.

Finally, one of the more marginal sports, boxing, offers a good ground for comparison. The heavyweight title fight between Deontay Wilder v Bermane Stiverne produced the following book percentages:

  • Ladbrokes – 107.7%
  • SkyBet – 108.4%
  • Bwin – 108.3%
  • FortunaWin – 111.8

FortunaWin appear to adopt a cautious approach with boxing as well as ice hockey, leaving nothing to chance with a hefty inbuilt profit. The football odds are quite encouraging, but the firm need to improve their margins for other sports.

Customer Services

The customer service centre is open to from Monday to Friday, 9am – 5:30pm and is available via a contact form on the website only. There is a FAQ section which aims to answer most queries, but for those customers with a pressing issue such as the requirement to discuss a forthcoming bet, there is no immediate avenue to communicate with staff.

Promotions

There are currently no bookmaker promotions on offer which has to be considered disappointing. Active marketing of new customers requires some sort of concession or bonus, especially in the ultra-competitive online bookmaker industry. Definitely an area for improvement.

Payment Types

Users can deposit funds into their FortunaWin account through:

  • Bank transfer
  • Visa debit/credit cards
  • Mastercard
  • Maestro
  • Moneybookers
  • Neteller

Overall

What are FortunaWin Sports doing well? Offering competitive football odds and an extensive ice hockey section on their site. What are they doing poorly? Pretty much everything else. The website is poorly designed in terms of the list of sports, the odds on most events are not wildly competitive and the number of disciplines covered are low.

Furthermore there is no sign up bonus for the bookie (confined to casino members) and customer service is only manned half the time and contactable through the website. At least FortunaWin are an established company and after all they do offer reasonable football odds, so there is no reason for the recreational football bettor to have an account.
