Zain Emperor to Put Rivals to the Sword at Catterick

September 15, 2015

15th-sept

2.30 Catterick – Zain Emperor

Robert Cowell’s Zain Emperor made a very promising debut over 6 furlongs at Haydock and has a favourite’s chance of going one better at Catterick. An unfancied 34.0 shot for his first racecourse appearance, the son of Holy Roman Emperor showed bright early pace, leading the field for most of the way before getting tired late on. His early toe is likely to be an asset over the sharp Catterick course.

Robert Cowell rarely has his horses wound up first time out and therefore Zain Emperor’s effort is all the more commendable. He should have learnt plenty from that run and it looked like a fair contest, with the winner rated 81.

Main market rival comes in the form of the Richard Fahey trained Ormskirk. Went off favourite last time out at Newcastle, but didn’t appear to get home in the testing ground over 7 furlongs. A drop to 6 furlongs on fast ground at Cattterick represents a very different test, and although respected, he doesn’t look anything special.

4.20 Haydock – Music Master

Henry Candy’s high class speedster Music Master may be a shades of odds on for the Class 3 conditions race at Yarmouth, but the 5 year old Piccolo horse is levels above his opposition and with conditions likely to suit, should be very difficult to beat down in grade. He is officially rated 10lbs superior to any opposition, and Henry Candy will be disappointed if his runner cannot get back in the winners enclosure.

Music Master has been relatively lightly raced for a 5 year old sprinter, with just 17 runs to his name. In that time he has amassed 3 wins and 6 places, and by and large is a consistent animal. Finished a respectable third when going off favourite for a listed race on penultimate start in France, but disappointed last time out in the Nunthorpe at York. Can be forgiven that, as it was a Group One contest over a fast 5 furlongs. Steps back up to 6 furlongs today which should suit best, as his best performances have come at the trip.

Hallelujah is the second favourite and James Fanshawe’s versatile performer has won 7 of her 21 starts. However, she has fund her level and if Music Master runs within 5lbs of his mark, he will win.
