Star Focus to Shine Brightest at Beverley

2.15 Beverley – Star Focus

Mark Johnston has farmed this race in recent years and he looks to have a very strong contender in the form of Star Focus. The Intense Focus filly improved plenty from first start to second, and there is good reason to think that she will go on again now stepped up to 7.5f.

Has looked a bit one paced at the end of her two races to date and appears to have been done by speedier types. Pedigree suggests that she should relish the extra yardage and Johnston has to be feared in this contest. Has a good draw in stall 3 and is likely to press forward early and make the most of that advantageous berth.

The main danger comes in the form of the David O’Meara trained Poplar Close who recorded a good form figure when finishing a creditable 6th on racecourse debut at Doncaster. Went off an unfancied 51.00Bet €100 to win €510050/1Bet £100 to win £5100+5000Bet $100 to win $510050.00Bet HK$100 to win HK$510050.00Bet Rp100 to win Rp5100-0.0200Bet RM100 to win RM5100 that day, but stayed on steadily towards the end of the contest implying she had a bright future. Pedigree is all about stamina so the step up in trip is sure to help, but Beverley is not nearly as galloping as Doncaster, and even over this longer trip, she may find herself momentarily outpaced. Is definitely respected, but will have to be fairly smart to beat the Johnston horse who is available at 2.10Bet €100 to win €21011/10Bet £100 to win £210+110Bet $100 to win $2101.10Bet HK$100 to win HK$2101.10Bet Rp100 to win Rp210-0.9091Bet RM100 to win RM210

3.15 Beverley – Tin Pan Alley

Tin Pan Alley may be 7 years old, but he could still be improving. Has bolted up in last two races which were at Beverley, and has a solid favourites’ chance to complete the hat trick.

David C Griffiths son of Singspiel has put his rivals to the sword with impressive front running displays, winning by a cumulative 7 lengths in both Class 5 and 6 company. Sire has a fantastic record when the going is fast, and therefore it is no coincidence his improvement has come when there has been quick ground.

Likely to press forward early and although he carries an extra 6lb penalty, the way he finished his race 7 days ago implies that may not be enough to halt the winning run. The main form danger comes in the way of Tim Easterby’s last time out victor, King Of The Celts. Goes well at the course and won last time out, but has never won back to back and has been given over a month off.
