2.10 Huntingdon – Southfield Royale
A rare foray over jumps for Tuesday’s selection, and Southfield Royale is the pick for the Neil Mulholland yard. Son of Presenting had progressed with each of first five starts, before bombing out last time out when upped to a trip of just shy of 3miles at Exeter last time out. The race was run nearly 30 seconds slower than standard, suggesting that the ground was definitely on the dead side, and contending with that going over the further trip surely had something to do with the horse’s poor performance.
Has been given a break of 51 days, which is encouraging – Neil Mulholland has a fantastic record of 28/161 for £85 LSP (A/E 1.65) with his 5yo+ hurdles off for 4-8 weeks. Should have been freshened up by the time off and this race looks very winnable – the second favourite is a 12 race maiden. A P McCoy is 10/25 for the yard in 2014/2015 and with the drop in trip sure to suit, a clear round of jumping should see this one prove too classy for his rivals.
2.20 Southwell – Felix Fabulla
The second selection runs at Southwell and is a speculative one, but at odds of +600 , has to be worth a small play. Felix Fabulla returns from a 630 day absence for the Hughie Morrison yard, and this Lucky Story gelding has some solid prior form if returning to action retaining all of his old ability. Reason to think he will do so, as the yard tend to know the time of day – they are very profitable when bringing their handicappers back from a 3+ month absence in March-May and also have an excellent course record. Furthermore, Morrison is very shrewd when it comes to 7lb claimers, winning twice the number of races he should do when he jocks up the inexperienced riders. Charlie Bennett will be doing the steering, and he is definitely one to watch in the saddle.
Sellingallthetime is a strong market leader, and is ultra-consistent, but has only managed to get his head in front once in 16 starts, which is a bit off-putting.
