7.10 Chelmsford – Shifting Moon
Hughie Morrison is a shrewd operator and not only does he place his horses very well, but he also brings them along to improve with each run. As a result, he regularly has younger horses who can rack up the sequence, and his 3 year old Kheleyf filly Shifting Moon aims to make it a four timer in the Class 5 2mile handicap at Chelmsford.
After not cutting much ice in her first three starts over inadequate trips, Shifting Moon started handicap life off a lowly mark of 51. She broke her duck on her fifth start after being upped in trip to 13.5 furlongs at Chelmsford. Unsurprisingly did not go on in next two runs back in trip, but ever since being stepped back up to 13.5-16 furlongs on the all-weather, Morrison’s runner has not looked back. The 2mile trip is probably her optimum and although not flashy, she just keeps on doing enough, grinding out victories. Started her winning run off a mark of 52 and now races off 66, but this progressive 3 year old stayer should have more to come.
Trafalgar Rock finally broke his duck for Mark Johnston last time out. Despite that victory, his attitude may not be ideal, as evidenced by 7 second placed finishes from his first 13 runs. Can lead which would be dangerous for rivals as Franny Norton is a master from the front, but if it turns into a war of attrition, he may not put it all in.
Shifting Moon is available at odds of 9/4 3.25 +225 2.25 2.25 -0.44 , and she should be a little shorter come race time.
7.40 Chelmsford – Grendisar
Grendisar is a classy operator and despite carrying the penalty, he should go very close in the 10 furlong conditions race at Chelmsford.
A recurring feature of Grendisar’s races is the way that he travels so powerfully. May be accused of not putting his head down in a battle (finished second on 11 of 28 starts) and is clearly a bit quirky, but he has finished first or second in 10 of his last 12 starts. Did do better when dropped back from 12 furlongs to 10 and has had a pipe opener in Turkey last month and should be spot on for this run at Chelmsford.
Fire Fighting has a great chance on form and gets weight from the selection, but he has only won 1 of his last 26 starts and he has not won from 10 starts on the all-weather.
