Good ground lover, will be suited by conditions and has plenty of form at the track, winning the race twelve months ago (is 4/7 in March). Wasn’t so good last time out, but that race can be disregarded as the ground went against Venetia Williams’ mare. Penultimate effort in listed company would put her bang there with only niggling doubt the fact that she has not won in a double digit field. 4/11 on good ground and at odds of +400 with Ladbrokes, looks appealing
2.35 – Spartan Angel
Anything that Nicky Henderson runs in this race needs to be afforded respect. Expert handler has won 3 of the last 5 renewals of the race and has favourite Spartan Angel. Won 3 of first 4 starts and has run creditably since, most recently when finishing 2nd in a hot Ascot handicap. Hasn’t been the slickest in the jumping department, but good chance that has been brushed up in 92 days since the horse last ran. Is available at +700 with Bet365 and Ladbrokes, and as the odds indicate, this is a competitive race. That being said, goes in with a leading chance, with the potential for further improvement
3.45 – Storm Force Ten
Andrew Balding is better known as a flat trainer, but he can get the job done over timber. His charge, Storm Force Ten makes his handicap debut in this juvenile race, and his form has shown a nicely progressive look, culminating in a fourth placed finish, 12 lengths behind the subsequent Triumph Hurdle winner at Cheltenham. Looks to have been saved for this and could be starting handicap life on a fair mark. Take the +250 available at Bet365 and PaddyPower.
