One More Go to Go Back to Back at Thirsk

4.35 Thirsk – One More Go

One More Go won convincingly last time out at Carlisle, and the step back up to 2miles on the flat could unlock some more improvement. A winner under National Hunt rules, Alan Swinbank does very well with his dual purpose performers, and at odds of +333 , he is the selection.

The son of Papal Bull won over 2miles back in June, and had excuses in next two runs. Slipped badly on fast ground at Musselburgh, and looked like he had not recovered from that when finishing last in a modestly run affair back at Ripon. Showed his true colours on slightly easier ground with the stiff finish at Carlisle, and clearly has plenty of stamina. Won comfortably last time out and a 6lb penalty may not be enough to stop him.

The favourite Trafalgar Rock is very consistent, but he may well be a bit of a dog. Has had 10 lifetime starts, and is yet to win, finishing second on five occasions. Is probably not one to trust in a battle, and odds of +300 look a little short from the win perspective.

5.10 Newcastle – Secret Clause

Secret Clause was the selection for us at Sports Betting Online just 3 days ago, and he proved far too strong for his opposition at Brighton. Under a 6lb penalty for that success, we believe he has plenty of potential to improve further.

The Sakhee’s Secret colt had run four solid, if unspectacular races prior to victory at Brighton. Had looked to get outpaced over the fast 5 furlongs at Southwell and the extra yardage at Brighton and softer ground seemed to suit very well. Drops back to the bare 5 furlongs at Newcastle, but the course has a long galloping configuration, and is quite testing. The ground is described as good to soft, and having already won on ground with cut in it, Secret Clause should be well equipped to deal with the prevailing conditions. Is likely to be finishing the race strongly and has Alistair Rawlinson on board, who takes off a valuable 3lbs, so in effect, he is only 3lbs higher than the success at Brighton.

There is not too much competition, and Strands Of Silk has been chosen as the second favourites by the majority of bookmakers. However she is by Kodiac (sire’s offspring tend to prefer fast ground) and seems to have somewhat of a temperament.

Secret Clause could well rattle up a sequence now he has got his head in front and odds of +200 look more than fair.
