Hughie Morrison’s Major Mac has yet to score but should appreciate the step in trip to 14 furlongs, and the son of Shirocco seems more than fairly priced at 6/17.00+6006.006.00-0.17
Winless in 7 starts, Major Mac has shown improved form since stepped up to 12f. Ran a creditable 2nd in a handicap at Doncaster and went off odds on next time out at Chepstow on the strength of his previous effort. Looked a little one paced at the finish of that race and was again run out of it into second place. A further step up in trip on slightly better ground looks ideal and Hughie Morrison has found a winnable race for his 3 year old gelding.
Morrison has booked very promising apprentice Charlie Bennett for the ride. This bodes well, as the wily trainer is 35/183 (19.13%) when using jockeys who are able to take of 7lbs, for a £114 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.68.
Amour De Nuit is naturally favourite as he ran a solid race last time out and any Sir Mark Prescott runner going over this sort of trip warrants respect, but he has to give plenty of weight to the selection who rates a good each way bet at the odds.
