Alan Swinbank’s 4 year old Oratorio gelding Light Of Asia has been in consistent form of late, and he could take advantage of some potential frailties in his competitors armour.
He won a 10f contest at Newcastle in facile fashion, and recorded a similar form figure stepped up to 12f at Haydock next time out. Is unraced on fast ground, but pedigree suggests it shouldn’t be a problem and could potentially even yield some improvement.
Swinbank’s horses running over 12f+ and returning to the track within 6 weeks do very well; 115/388 (29.64%) for £85.64 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.28, and there could be more to come from this one. The favourite is the Richard Fahey trained Emerahldz. Has won on fast ground once, but is by Excellent Art (mudlark), and as such would surely prefer some cut in the ground.
7.45 Beverley – Triple Dip
After a very solid effort over 12f.5 at Musselburgh, Triple Dip rates a good bet to go two better and take the 5 runner Class 4 contest at Beverley. Was forced to set a strong gallop the last day, and the smaller field should help ensure that the daughter of Three Valleys has an easier time of things up front.
Mark Johnston’s filly has finished in the frame on 5 of her 8 starts and posted a career best at Musselburgh last time out. Led into the final furlong in what was a strong looking Class 2 0-100 contest, before exertions took their toll. This field looks weaker and Johnston’s runner looks on the up. Has the services of Franny Norton who is perhaps the best jockey in the country when riding from the front.
Mark Johnston has a great record with 3 year olds going over 12 furlongs+ in 3 year old+ handicaps; 187/836 (22.37%) for £227.13 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.26. Furthermore his 3 year olds going 9f+ at Beverley in handicap company have a great record; 53/209 (25.36%) for £77.02 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.53.
Micky Hammond’s Sherry probably rates the main danger. A winner on debut under National Hunt flat rules, she broke her maiden on the flat last time out over 12f at Thirsk. Connections believe the filly will be better under this code, so she needs respecting. Regardless, 3.25 looks good for our class dropper Triple Dip.
