A reasonable looking 3 year old maiden at Newcastle to kick off the tipping for Friday, with the William Haggas trained Khalaas the selection. The once race 3 year old by Iffraaj showed definite promise last year and is the rightful market leader.
His debut 3rd came on soft ground at Newmarket. The form has been franked with the winner of that contest acquitting himself well in a Class 3 contest next time out, recording an RPR in the 100’s. Khalaas ran well probably despite the conditions that day (sire Iffraaj has a moderate record on testing ground) and the good to firm should be much more suitable this time around.
William Haggas has a tremendous record in 3 year old races at Newcastle in the last 5 years – 9/19, and his record with once raced 3 year old maidens who are returning from a 90+ day absence is equally impressive – 35/98 (35.71%) for £54.28 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.42.
Main market rival looks to be Fly With Emirates, from the powerful Godolphin outfit. Horse ran green on debut at Wetherby before the penny dropped and he stayed on strongly once the bird had flown. Whilst that was an eye catching run, the bare form does not look at strong as Khalaas’ and the Haggas horse has plenty of positives to his name.
