Grosmont to Give it Some Welly at Wolverhampton

3.20 Wolverhampton – Grosmont

James Given’s 3 year old Hellvelyn colt Grossmont has somewhat of a patchy profile, but his last two runs over course and distance have resulted in a victory and a second place, and in an open race, he looks overpriced at +600

Horse clearly prefers the all-weather over the turf having won or been placed on 7/12 runs on artificial surfaces. He is 0/4 with no places on turf. Is clearly not straightforward as has worn the visor and was put in a claimer last time out, but these seem to be his conditions. Are there potentially more progressive rivals in the race? Yes. But it is a game of value, and Grosmont provides that.

James Given has a fantastic record with his all-weather runners in May-August; 36/211 (17.06%) for £97.46 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.57. Horse has been held up in previous two tries at the course and probably stays further, so is likely to be finishing to some effect. Has just the solitary victory so may be best for an each-way bet.

8.05 Windsor – Lightning Charlie

Lightning Charlie was clearly thought to be one of Amanda Perrett’s better 2 year olds last season, and he could be well handicapped off a mark of 79 on seasonal reappearance.

An unfancied 100/1 on debut, the son of Myboycharlie showed a tonne of promise, finishing 3rd in a reasonable maiden at Goodwood. Went off odds on for next start but disappointed. Made no mistake at the third time of asking on the all-weather at Kempton. That race has thrown up a number of winners and the form looks solid enough.

Amanda Perrett works the handicap system well and her runner makes his debut off a workable mark for a horse who has pretentions to be better than this grade later in the season. Her horses who have had 3 starts and are switching from maiden to handicap company do very well; 16/94 (17.02%) for £61.75 LSP, giving an A/E of 1.82. Perrett has a 15% record with her 3 year olds at Windsor in recent years and if wound up on the back of a 242 day absence, he should go very close.

Mullionheir is the favourite and racked up a hat-trick of wins before his sequence was derailed last time out. Could still be on the up so requires respect.
