3.05 Epsom – Kinglami
Brian Gubby’s 6 year old Kinglami has been an admirably consistent performer, and under these heavy conditions, he is favoured in the 6 furlong 0-90 handicap at Epsom.
Kinglami finished third last time out at Goodwood over 7 furlongs in a Class 3 race. He is probably better back over 6 furlongs and the drop in trip should suit. The heavy conditions will really sort these horses out, and he has won on both heavy and soft in the past. Likely to race close to the pace, will have plenty of stamina at the business end and is a robust performer.
The favourite is Charlie Wallis’ 11 year old Regal Parade. Has finished in the first three in five of his last six runs, but despite his consistency, he looks handicapped about right and there should be younger horses (including the selection) who can improve past the son of Pivotal.
4.20 Goodwood – Gale Force
James Fanshawe is always a trainer to be respected, and his 4 year old filly Gale Force has a great chance of scoring in the 2mile Class 2 handicap at Nottingham. A third placed finisher over 14 furlongs at the course last time out, she will definitely appreciate the step up in trip.
After gagging up in a 2 mile, Class 5 handicap at Kempton, Gale Force went off a well backed +300 favourite in a Class 3 race at Nottingham. Sat behind the leaders, but came under pressure a couple of furlongs out from home and was momentarily outpaced. Finished with a flourish, beaten just 1 length, and she would have been in front if the race was 100 yards longer. Has been raised just 1lb for that run, and the step back up in trip is guaranteed to suit.
Rhombus was the winner of the race Gale Force contested last time out. Ismail Mohammed’s runner showed a willing attitude to fend off all of his rivals and the son of Authorized loved the soft underfoot conditions. Has been raised 3lbs, and may struggle to confirm the form over this longer distance, but he is a runner who has to be respected all the same.
