Forever Now the class act of the field

April 8, 2015

3.40 Nottingham – Forever Now

Forever Now is the class act of the action on Wednesday, coming into the 14f Barry Hills Further Flight Stakes (Listed Race), with an official rating of 110. When last seen, she finished a very creditable 6th in the St Ledger, and looks the class act in this race. The soft ground is the only thing that is stopping this 4 year old filly being odds on, and although her pedigree doesn’t really lend itself to the conditions being favourable, that is factored into the price.

John Gosden is a master trainer and with this being his fillies first run of the season, if he thinks the going comes up to soft or that she will not handle the underfoot conditions, a withdrawal is very likely. The fact that he keeps this high class filly in training is revealing in itself – the Newmarket handler could have sent her off to be covered, but instead he brings the daughter of Galileo back to the racecourse. Gosden is 49/209 (23.44%) with 4 year old females, producing a level stakes profit of £116, and an A/E (actual number of wins/expected number of wins) of 1.40 – a very impressive set of data.

Island Remede looks like a very solid second favourite. Lacks the class of Forever Now, but loves the ground.

4.00 Lingfield – Grand Spirit

Luca Cumani brings his 3 year old colt Grand Spirit back after a winter break, and there is the chance that he has got in to this 7f Class 4 handicap at Lingfield on a workable handicap mark of 81. As many from the yard do, improved with each start to win in convincing fashion on third run last term. Showed inexperience hanging that day, but was much the best, and could be more to come on the all-weather with the dam’s side suggesting he will enjoy the surface.

Does have to prove race fitness off the back of a lay off and there are some in form rivals, but Luca Cumani is profitable with his horses returning from a 90+ day absence, particularly when they are 3 year olds. At odds of 4.33Bet €100 to win €433333/100Bet £100 to win £433+333Bet $100 to win $4333.33Bet HK$100 to win HK$4333.33Bet Rp100 to win Rp433-0.3003Bet RM100 to win RM433 he appears worth a speculative bet. A few last time out winners in the field in the form of Aledaid and Period Piece, but they don’t look anything special, and the hope is that the Cumani horse has grown up mentally and physically over the winter months.
