In the middle of the transitional month of November, it is nice to have a good race on the card at Lingfield. November sees the start of the jumps season in earnest, and the flat turf action is phased out. In a 9 runner, Class 3 contest at Lingfield, Dean Ivory’s Varsovian looks to have a cracking chance of making the frame, and a very solid chance of returning to winning ways. The horse has won 6 of his 13 all-weather starts, and has the benefit of a recent outing.
It is not uncommon for Dean Ivory to nurture sprinters to develop over time, and he has clearly had to wait a little bit with the son of Refuse To Bend. Most 5 year old sprinters have had plenty more than 15 lifetime starts, and there has likely been some sort of issues, or Varsovian has just been a slow maturing horse. After starting his racing career over a mile, connections soon realised the drop back to 6 furlongs would suit, and the horse hasn’t looked back. Likes to be held up in touch and it seems like he is still learning. Was caught out by an enterprisingly ridden front runner last time out at Chelmsford, but that run was still credible.
Stall 2 looks like a good draw for Varsovian, and under classy Robert Winston, he really has to go close. Good each-way bet.
3.20 Lingfield – Presumido
In a wide open contest, Simon Dow’s Presumido looks to have fair each-way claims. The experienced 5 year old ran no sort of race last time out at Kempton, but there were mitigating circumstances for that run, and he can bounce back to form under classy Jim Crowley.
Presumido has always been a horse who does well in the last few months of the year and over the winter. He relishes the all-weather and is a decent sort on his day. Last time out the horse was caught wide and was lit up, before eventually being well beaten. If that run were to be ignored, he would be around favourite for this contest, and at SBO Racing, we like to forgive a horse one bad run.
Presumido has a versatile running style and may be forced to sit off the pace from stall 10, but with a decent gallop likely, he should be moving well turning for home and can hopefully pass those stopping in front.
