Archimedes to see his name in the stars at Lingfield

1.50 Lingfield – Archimedes

Paul Cole’s Invincible Spirit 2 year old looks like a very solid market leader and is the first selection of the day. Went off favourite on debut and ran with credit.

Although there are only 6 runners, the race has an interesting look about it. Saeed Bin Suroor always has to be respected, especially with his first time out 2 year old debutants and he is represented by Strong Challenge. Mark Johnston has Riflescope, who put in a solid debut performance, but they both may have to go some to catch Archimedes.

Cole’s runner was favourite for his debut run and got beaten by a smart one, who has since gone on to show improved form on second start. Paul Cole 2 year olds who were beaten favourites on their debut have a fantastic record second time out; 18/44 (40.91%) for £15.19 LSP, giving an impressive A/E of 1.50. With a hefty price tag and the prospect of plenty more to come, the 2.25Bet €100 to win €2255/4Bet £100 to win £225+125Bet $100 to win $2251.25Bet HK$100 to win HK$2251.25Bet Rp100 to win Rp225-0.8000Bet RM100 to win RM225 odds look very fair.

The other 3 horses look also-rans and with Archimedes likely to run somewhere close to a mark of 90, the Godolphin horse will have to be fairly special to lower his colours.

3.10 Ascot – Solar Magic

Solar Magic looks overpriced at 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550 in a competitive handicap at Ascot. John Gosden’s 4 year old filly ran a very solid race on seasonal comeback at Kempton and more can be expected second time back with fitness likely to be closer to optimal, and the course sure to suit better.

Solar Magic was closing late in the day at Kempton, and she is a previous course and distance winner at Ascot, having performed very well on both fast and slow conditions. The fact John Gosden keeps her on as a 4 year old is encouraging; his 4 year old fillies are 50/212 (23.58%) for £130.76 LSP, giving an A/E 1.42.

Roger Charlton’s Temptress has some good form, but she is returning from a winter break and the trainer rarely has them wound up for their first start back.

Would be no surprise if Solar Magic were well backed and 5.50Bet €100 to win €5509/2Bet £100 to win £550+450Bet $100 to win $5504.50Bet HK$100 to win HK$5504.50Bet Rp100 to win Rp550-0.2222Bet RM100 to win RM550 seems generous
