Manchester United to Get the Better of Benfica

Manchester United have won both Champions League games so far.

Manchester United’s tactics at Liverpool in the Premier League were questioned on Saturday, but they are expected to play a more expansive game away at Benfica in the Champions League as they aim to make it three wins from three in group A.

The Red Devils have already beaten Basel and CSKA Moscow comfortably, and they can strengthen their position at the top of the group with another victory over Benfica. The Portuguese club have been beaten by both of United’s victims, including a 5-0 thrashing at Basel, and they are currently bottom of the section ahead of Wednesday’s match.

On a night of mismatched games where several teams are odds-0n, the other matches which take the eye are Chelsea’s meeting with Roma, and Juventus’ home tie against Sporting. The Blues have lost two games in a row to Man City and Crystal Palace, but have a 100% record in the Champions League after a 6-0 thumping of Qarabag and that 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid. Roma will provide good opposition at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea have the opportunity to make it nine points and put one foot in the next round.

Juventus lost 3-0 at Barcelona in group D and face a Sporting side which is level with the Old Lady on three points. Nothing less than a win will do for the Italian Champions as they play catch up against the Spanish side who are heavy favourites to beat Olympiakos at the Nou Camp.

Benfica v Manchester United

Manchester United are backed at -111   with 888Sport to land their third win in the Champions League and cement their position at the top of group A.

The Red Devils were roundly criticized for negative tactics at Anfield over the weekend but in typically pragmatic Mourinho style, they came away with a point. In the Champions League they’ve beaten Basel 3-0 and CSKA Moscow 4-1, and they now play bottom-of-the-pile Benfica. The Portuguese side

The Portuguese side have only scored once and conceded seven in two games so far, and United are the standout team in a weak group. Benfica have won just two games in the last seven, and there is a gulf in class here that the Red Devils should be able to take advantage of. A win on Wednesday night will put them on the verge of the last sixteen.

Chelsea v Roma

The same applies to Chelsea, who can also stake their claim for a place in the next stage with a win over Roma at Stamford Bridge. The bet that appeals is a Blues win and both teams to score at +220   with Bet365.

That last-gasp 2-1 win at Atletico was a brilliant result for Chelsea, and puts them in the box seat ahead of their closest rival in group C. Roma are next best with four points after drawing with the Madrid club and taking three points from their trip to Qarabag.

They’ll give Chelsea a good test on Wednesday night – They’re currently 5th in Serie A and have won five of the last six games. Roma are not short of goals either, and are fancied to get on the scoresheet against Chelsea’s questionable defence. Conte has seen his side concede to Palace, Man City, Atletico and Notts Forest in the last five games, their only clean sheet coming against Stoke.

Roma have scored in the last 14 consecutive away games, and are value for a goal, but Chelsea are expected to be too strong on the night in front of their own fans.

Juventus v Sporting

Finally odds of +130   with BetVictor are worth taking about a Juventus win to nil when they entertain Sporting.

Juve have conceded in their last two Serie A games against Atalanta and Lazio and failed to win either, but prior to that had won three in a row with clean sheets. Their defeat to Barcelona was followed by a 2-0 win over Olympiakos, and they cannot afford to drop home points in group D.

Sporting won 3-2 away at Olympiakos and only went down 1-0 at home to Barcelona. They could provide opposition for the top spots if given the chance by Juve, so tonight’s match is doubly important for the Italians. Their imperious home record should stand them in good stead and plenty of teams leave here without points or goals over the course of a season. Expect Juve’s solid defence to limit Sporting to few chances, while their quality going forward should ensure the three points.
