Galaxy Sports Summary

Are Galaxy Sports a bookmaker from another planet? This sportsbook and casino is located in the gambling haven of Costa Rica and having been founded in 1997, the firm have been in operation for 20 years. The Galaxy Sports website offers bettors the opportunity to wager on a variety of different sports as well as use their online casino and racebook.

The company also offer live, in-play markets for the majority of sports that they cover, enabling players to bet throughout a contest as events unfold. The Site

The landing page at Galaxy Sports is not flashy, but is well designed and spaced out. Customers can quickly see the different mediums to wager upon; live betting, racebook and casino all have links on the homepage. Interestingly, there is no direct link to the bookmaker – users need to sign up for an account with the firm in order to see the odds and markets available. This is most likely an extra security step (many firms who serve the US market utilise this strategy). Customers can peruse the variety of promotions on offer at any given time by selecting the tab at the top of the page, and can also indulge themselves in the rules and find out about the company’s history by clicking on the links in the horizontal menu bar.

Once in the sportsbook, it is soon evident that there are no bells or whistles, just a straightforward, no frills attached list of the different sports that the firm offer. Once a sport is clicked on, a dropdown list appears and markets can be selected. When looking at the odds for each match, there is usually a figure adjacent to the odds which indicates the wagering limits for that particular market. Customers who want bigger stakes may contact customer services. After choosing a bet, clients click the continue button above the odds, at which point they can enter their desired stake etc. At any time, bettors can see their balance, amount of money at risk, free bets and total funds by hovering over their account number in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

The site is functional, and most US based bettors are not overly concerned with aesthetics. However, if one were to nit-pick, Galaxy Sports could do with sprucing up their bookmaker with graphics, in-play commentary, statistics etc.

Fancy A Freebie?

Galaxy Sports offer 100% in bonus money for new members up to a maximum of $300 (minimum deposit of $100 to qualify for the offer). 50% of the bonus goes to the sportsbook and 50% goes to the casino, so it isn’t ideal for those bettors who like to wager solely on sports. There is a 20x rollover requirement on all bonuses, so customers would have to turn over $6000 dollars before being able to withdraw their funds. Those who want to participate in the promotion have to input the code ‘5016’ when signing up (those who would rather not can just leave the bonus code column blank). The bonus is only available to clients in the Americas.

In addition to the sign-up bonus, customers can benefit from other promotions such as 8% rebates on certain horse racing action as well as other ad hoc concessions.

Sports Markets & Odds

Galaxy Sports cover all of the mainstream sports that are popular with bettors around the world. In total, there are 18 different disciplines/events to choose from; soccer, baseball, American football, golf, tennis, basketball, football, MMA, boxing, motor racing, rugby, cricket, Aussie rules, handball, horse racing, e-sports, cycling and futures.

Generally, the odds are very strong with Galaxy Sports. Below is a cross section of the total book percentages for some of the popular sports:

Soccer – 103.5-104.5%
Baseball – 103.5%-104.5%
Tennis – 104%-104.5%
Boxing – 103.5-104.5
Rugby – 106.5-107%
Aussie Rules – 106.5-107.5%

(The closer to 100%, the more competitive the odds).

The odds compilers at Galaxy Sports work to very similar margins across most sports. Events which are not so popular in the Americas, such as rugby and Aussie rules are compiled to slightly higher margins – this is because knowledge of the sports isn’t quite as high and as such they need to leave themselves a margin of error.

The focus is most definitely on the main three markets – Moneyline, Spread and Over/Under and most bettors will part ways with their money on these types of bets. Galaxy Sports do offer a handful of prop bets for the bigger events/sports. For instance, on the Major League Baseball matches, customers can bet on Player Totals, Runlines, Hits Runs and Errors, Score in the First Innings etc. The margins on prop bets are a little less generous than for the big three markets.

Currency

There is a plethora of choice when it comes to which currency bettors want to use when wagering with Galaxy Sports:

US Dollars, Norwegian Krone, Swedish Krona, Pounds Sterling, Euros, Danish Krone, Canadian Dollar, Dominican Republic Peso, Panama Dollar, Mecixan Peso, Guatemala Quetzal, Chile Peso, Nicaraguan Cordoba, Peruvian Nuevos Soles, Rwandan Francs, Venezuelan Bolivar Fuetre, Colombian Peso, Argentinean Peso, Chinese Yen, Polish Zloty, Japanese Yen, Brazilian Real, Paraguayan Guaranies, Philippine Peso, Honduran Lempira, Bolivian Peso, Jamaican Dollar, Australian Dollar, Virtual Coin, Uruguayan Peso and Korean Won.

There are currencies from every corner of the planet, but the emphasis is on the different types of money from the Americas.

Payments

Galaxy Sports offer a variety of payment methods for clients:

Deposits

Mastercard (Min $48/Max $1000)
Visa (Min $10/Max $10,000)
Bitcoin (Min $48/Max $1000)
Person2Person (RIA)
Bank Wire (USD, EURO, GBP, or CDN)

Withdrawal

Checks (maximum pay out per check is $2500 and the processing fee is $50)
Neteller (processing fee $25)
Bank wires (available for withdrawals of $10,000 or more. Processing fees are $600+)

As is common with the US facing bookmakers, the withdrawal limits are quite high and there are some hefty fees that are attached when bettors pull their funds out of accounts.

Restricted Countries

Galaxy Sports refuse to provide a list of restricted countries for their sportsbook, but judging by the list when signing up for an account, there are very few jurisdictions that the company don’t cover. Players from the USA and the UK are accepted.

Customer Support

The customer support section is a little difficult to track down. Galaxy Sports offer two mediums for bettors to contact the staff – live chat and an online e-mail form. It is slightly disconcerting that there is no e-mail address listed or a phone number for clients to use in case of a problem or a dispute. There is a help section which serves as an FAQ and rules page.

Betting On The Move

The Galaxy Sports mobile website mirrors the design and colour scheme of the main site. As expected, there is no mobile app, however the mobile optimised website suffices for users of iOS, Android and other devices. In line with the desktop website, customers are unable to see any odds or betting markets until they have logged in. The login button is located in the top right-hand corner of the screen and once a user clicks on it, a form appears for users to input their information. Once users are logged in to the website, they will see a list of sports in the centre of the page. Each sport has a dropdown list with the different countries/events/matches on. Users click on a tick box next to their desired bet and press continue, from which point they will be directed to the bet slip.

There is live chat available on mobile devices, which is a nice touch as many firms neglect this feature for those betting while on the move. The site is functional and quick loading, without being flashy at all.

Verdict

Galaxy Sports provide competitive odds across a range of sports and are a solid option for bettors based in the Americas. They are recommended by the SBO team.
