Celebrity Big Brother is back on our screens, with a twisted fairy-tale theme and an all-new house for 2015. Fourteen fame-hungry celebrities entered the house on launch night last night, and this is our lowdown on the contestants and their odds of lasting out the month and winning the show.
Keith Chegwin is a TV presenter and radio host, and has worked in showbusiness for nigh on 50 years. He’s best remembered for classic shows such as ‘Cheggers Plays Pop’. He’ll be celebrating his 58th birthday in the house, and it’s difficult not to like a man who is becoming something of a ‘British institution’. He’s been installed as the early favourite and his happy-go-lucky nature should endear him to housemates. He would be high on the shortlist were his odds not quite so short.
Nadia Sawalha has appeared in dozens of UK TV shows including Eastenders, Casualty and The Bill. She’s also well-known as a panelist on loose women, and is a winner of a previous reality show – Celebrity Masterchef. The 50 year-old actress and TV presenter is likely to be popular inside and outside the house.
‘Superbitch’ Katie Hopkins has already played up to her fierce image by playing along with Big Brother’s games during launch night. She has made a living from being a professional ‘troll’ and can be relied upon to cause controversy. Much of what she says is probably tongue-in-cheek, but the producers of the show would surely like to keep her in as long as possible for sheer entertainment value. She’s already been the subject of a bit of a gamble having been backed in from 16/117.00+160016.0016.00-0.06
George Best’s son could be described as a socialite and a reality TV star, who has battled back from his excesses after the death of his father. He says he wants to show people that his life is back on track when he’s in the house. He should do well enough, but doesn’t stand out initially as a potential winner.
Perez Hilton found fame through being a celebrity blogger, and now lists the likes of Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton among his friends. Another who insists he wants to show people the ‘real’ him, rather than just his internet persona. Likely to be popular in the house and annoying in equal measure.
Drag Queen Michelle Visage is definitely a contestant that stands out from the crowd, and who could be a surprise winner at a decent price. She has earned the nickname Ms Nasty on RuPaul’s ‘Drag Queen’ TV show, and is not afraid to speak her mind. She’s likely to receive a groundswell of support from the gay community, and could be controversial enough to earn the support of British public.
English actress Patsy Kensit has starred in a number of films and TV shows, and was also once famously married to Oasis front man Liam Gallagher. She had previously said she would only ever appear on one reality TV show – Strictly Come Dancing – but has obviously had a change of heart. She always comes across well on chat shows and panel shows, and will probably get along with most in the house. She’s another who makes a bit of appeal at a decent price.
Jeremy Jackson is best known for his role as Hobie Buchannon – David Hasselhoff’s son – in the TV series Baywatch. He has had his problems in the past with drugs, but says he comes to the house as a new man and is there to enjoy it and have fun. Likable enough.
Former pop star Kavana continues the theme of celebrities who have fought back from the trappings of fame at an early age. Had his hits in the ’90’s but was back on our screens as part of ITV2’s Big Reunion show last year. Doesn’t stand out as a winner.
Ken Morley is well-known for playing supermarket manager Reg Holdsworth in TV soap Coronation Street. Could have his supporters in viewers of the soap, but will find it hard to integrate with several members of this particular household.
Alexander O’Neal – 50/151.00+500050.0050.00-0.02 with Bwin
Alexander O’Neal is an American R&B singer whose biggest UK hit, ‘Criticize’ reached number four in the UK charts in 1987. He was chosen by Katie Hopkins as one of ‘the two least-entertaining’ housemates in Big Brother’s launch night shock, and therefore will face the first public vote. Not worth backing on this basis alone.
Model, Cami Li, found fame in 2013 when she had a romance with TOWIE star Kirk Norcross. She’s also the host of a Venezuelan reality TV show. Loves to show off her body and her tattoos, which could make her unpopular among some of the other housemates, but might make her popular with some of the viewing public.
The former model is perhaps best known for a string of kiss-and-tell stories about her conquests, including the likes of Simon Cowell and John Terry, and her addiction to plastic surgery. Has admitted to an addiction to surgery and has had around 350 operations in total. Another who sees Big Brother as a chance to show the ‘real’ her.
Model and body-double Chloe Goodman starred in MTV’s Ex on the Beach, and not surprisingly, wants to use Big Brother to show the ‘real’ her. Sadly, she may not get the chance as Katie Hopkins voted her as the other of the ‘two least-entertaining’ housemates who will face the first public vote and eviction.
