The company now operates within the NetplayTV PLC group of gaming related brands. The company use the latest cryptographic (SSL) technology to ensure that all aspects of the customer’s information and data is kept safe. As an established firm in the gaming industry, Vernons Sports really should have the whole online bookie down to a tee. In this review we take a look to decipher whether that assumption is correct, reviewing all aspect of this British bookmaker’s service in the process.

On The Laptop Or Desktop?

Are bettors sick of the ubiquitous, three column layout that they encounter with almost every online bookmaker they face, or is the familiarity of the sports down the left, live events in the middle and betting slip on the right hand side something they appreciate?

Well it seems that if it isn’t broke, then don’t fix it, and Vernons utilise the aforementioned layout. They adopt a red, white and blue theme and although the text and graphics seems a little boxy and outdated, there are definitely no major gripes with the website.

Nice touches are the search bar on the left hand side of the page, enabling players to quickly identify their exact bet, and the statistics section that can be found for the majority of sports by selecting the bar chart icon by the list of odds. Powered by BetRadar, the statistics give bettors data and information which can assist in them making more informed betting decisions.

Do Vernons Give Away a Sign Up Freebie?

Online bettors love a freebie, and they have come to expect some sort of concession when signing up for an account.

Unfortunately, Vernons missed the memo on this one and don’t provide any sort of attractive bonus for players in order to get them to sign up for an account. Is this because they are stingy, or perhaps because they have supreme confidence in their product and don’t feel it necessary to provide a matched bonus with high rollover requirements. It would be remiss to say that Vernons don’t offer any concessions to bettors, they just don’t offer any for new players.

Over a range of sports, Vernons provide cash back, free bets and money back offers. One such offer is Vernons will provide a £5 free bet to any customers who place five consecutive £5+ bets in play on tennis matches. Another offer is fairly decent – Vernons will refund all losing First Goal Scorer or Correct Score bets on applicable football games when there is a scoring draw (any score). The reward is a free bet up to a maximum of £50.

Although they don’t offer a sign up bonus, the concessions that Vernons offer their customer make up for it. After all, many bookmakers will generate huge sign up bonuses, but in the small print, customers find out they need to turn their deposit and free bet over 10 times before either can be withdrawn, thus producing a large probability that they will lose the money all together.

Sports Markets & Odds

Vernon have compiled odds for a total of 24 different sports, with the emphasis being placed on those disciplines and events that are popular in the UK and Western Europe.

Naturally, football tops the charts, and the most coverage and resources are pumped into the beautiful game, but there is also exposure for the main American sports, as well as both codes of rugby, golf, darts, handball and more. Vernons sports offer their customers odds on horse racing, with odds for both the daily action as well as ante post racing.

Looking at a cross section of the live and in play football matches, the total book percentages came to an average of 110% (the closer to 100%, the more generous the odds are to bettors). Admittedly these fixtures were from a variety of less heralded footballing nations, so naturally the odds are a little conservative. In the English Premier League, the betting odds are a little better, with total book percentages compiling to around 106%.

Tennis coverage is good. There are matches from around the globe and on top of the match winner betting, there are also other markets such as total number of sets, over/under games, first point to be won etc. The odds for these matches sit around the industry average, with most of the qualifying markets working out to around 109-109.5%.

Banking

At present, Vernons sports only accept deposits using Pounds Sterling (£). The following payment methods can be used:

  • Visa
  • Paypal
  • MasterCard
  • Skill (Moneybookers)
  • Neteller
  • Paysafecard

However, in the first 3 months, until a player achieves VIP status, they are only able to deposit and withdraw with debit/credit card. The minimum deposit is £10 and the maximum is £3000 per transaction (there are no fees to deposit). The maximum withdrawal request is £5000 and the minimum is £10 (anything below £10 incurs a £1.50 transaction fee). Withdrawals are processed within 72 hours after being requested.

Mobile Betting

Vernons don’t have a downloadable mobile app, but they do have a mobile optimised website that serves as a solid alternative. Customers on Android, iOS and other devices can simply logon to the Vernons site from their handheld device and bet away. The mobile site maintains the same blue, white and red colour scheme.

The list of sports can be found on a scrollable horizontal bar at the top of the page, with in play action, promotions and today’s horse racing further down. Players can access the menu at the top left hand corner of the screen. The site is very responsive and fast loading.

SBO Verdict

Vernons Sports are not outstanding at anything they do, but they are a trusted, established firm with a range of sports and additional markets.
