Layout & Design

At first glance, Grandbetting bookmaker has a sophisticated feel. Against a black background, the gold and white graphics/text it looks good, even if the home page is headed by a large rotating ad extolling the virtues of their casino bonuses and promotions. There is also a large ad reminding you they have an Android app. Bearing in mind we’re talking about the main site’s homepage, it’s telling that the rest of the page is devoted to football betting, with an icon for six of Europe’s top leagues – the Turkish Super League, the English Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 – and some ‘last minute bets’, all of which are for upcoming football matches.

Being the home page though, it does offer all of the site’s wares – not just football betting – and these are listed horizontally: ‘Live’, ‘Sports’, ‘Casino’, ‘Live Casino’, ‘Virtual Sports’ and ‘Promotions’.

As it’s the bookmaker we’re interested in, if we click on ‘Sports’ we’re taken to a page that differs slightly from the traditional norm. Instead of the usual main body with left and right sidebars format, the Grandbetting bookmaker page unusually defaults to a four-column layout. And, despite being unconventional, it works.

What tends to happen is that the main betting line in the left side of the main body is expanded upon in the right, with all of the additional bets for that same fixture being listed line-by-line.

The left sidebar, however, does follow the norm and is here there is an exhaustive list of all the sports that Grandbetting offers to its punters. In order to accommodate the four columns, the list defaults to icon form – ⚾ for baseball, ???? for NFL etc – but with a single click, it can be expanded to resemble the traditional listing of sports and events.

At the time of this review, there were 60 different sports/entertainment themes listed – we’ll come onto these in more detail later – with each listing fixtures on a country-by-country basis. One click on any county drills down and fills the left side of the main body with a wide array of potential bets. It works well in that it’s clear, concise, nicely presented and not overly complicated. And, most important of all, it’s intuitive. Everything works as you would expect it to work, everything is found where you would expect to find it, and everything follows and fits logically. It all leads to a good betting experience.

Given the large range of betting options available, a useful touch is that the left side bar is headed by a search window, giving Grandbetting customers a quick route to their sport of choice.

In terms of navigation, the page works perfectly but a slight oddity is that each of the four columns can be scrolled down individually. This is certainly not a problem – some will perceive it as a good thing – but, because it’s an unusual feature, it took a little getting used to. What’s infinitely more important is that the layout works well, and the overall design is pleasant on the eye.

The right sidebar offers the usual combination of betting slip and in-house adverts, with the slip itself offering the punter the additional choice of a Quick bet or a Superbet (enhanced odds on selected events), and the slip itself coming with a useful ‘system calculator’ that lets the bettor see how much they could win. A small feature but a useful one nonetheless. The ads are for mainly for Grandbetting’s in-house mini-games, casino and roulette features.

One thing that is important to say is that the format described above for the site’s default format – classic – but they also offer it, via the settings icon, in what they describe as a ‘modern’ format: a simplified format against a plain white background. For most bettors, the classic format will tend be their preference.

Sports Markets & Odds

As mentioned above, Grandbetting bookmaker offers over 60 different sports and entertainment themes – something for everyone – and, also as alluded to earlier, there is a big emphasis on football, with leagues and competitions from 57 countries featured at the time of the review. In addition to the big European hitters – Spain, Germany, Italy, England etc – also featured are leagues for more obscure footballing outposts such as Kenya, Lithuania and Botswana. In short, their worldwide coverage of football is such that whatever time of the day or night you prefer to bet, there will always be live football to bet on.

Their range of different sports and entertainment events offers something for everyone too and, in addition to the normal markets for tennisbasketballF1 and the like, they also pick up on minority sports such as futsal and surfing. They have also gone big on virtual sports with no fewer than eight listed at the time of this review – football, greyhounds, horse racing, penalty kicks, football pro, tennis, car racing and bicycle.

In addition, there are several markets available for E-Sports gamers – Dota 2League of LegendsCounter-Strike and Call of Duty among them – plus a selection of politics and entertainment bets.

The site has enough variety and depth on offer for the even the most experienced bettor and fun aplenty for the occasional gambler.

In terms of offering value, Grandbetting bookmaker is, in truth, at the less generous end of the scale. With the industry standard odds being compiled to between 105% and 106%, at the time of this review we calculated the upcoming football fixtures to be averaging just over 110% mark – not ideal, but just about within acceptable levels.

Bonuses

This won’t take long – there are none, at least not in terms of a welcome bonus. Promotions, in general, are sparse for sports betting on Grandbetting, and although they do plug a 20% welcome bonus for their casino, none are listed on the site if you want to bet on sport.

But, after a bit of digging, Grandbetting bookmaker customer services did reveal the following:

“You can get a bonus of 15% of your investment [betting fund] when you are investing a minimum of 200 TL with Bank Transfer or a minimum of 50 TL with PTT Bank Transfer. The maximum amount of bonus that can be obtained from the Bank Transfer Investment Bonus within 24 hours is 400 TL.”

So, it may not be overly generous or overly clear, but for those Turkish bettors who load their account with a minimum of 200 TL (50 TL with PTT Bank Transfer), there is a bonus to be had.

We were only able to discover this through direct contact with Customer Services, so we suggest if you’re having a bet it’s worth doing the same.

Responsible Gambling

While there is nothing on the front face of the site about responsible gambling, a quick look near their ‘About Us’ info reveals a whole section on that very subject. In fact, they devote over 1,000 words to it in great detail, making it doubly odd there is no recognition of this elsewhere on the site. But it’s good stuff and examines in detail how bettors should be ‘self-responsible’ and, also, how to identify problematic behaviour.

Customer Services

Grandbetting bookmaker offer their customers an email helpline and live chat facility, which – according to their ‘Contact Us’ section – is available 12:00-18:00 (EET+2). In fact, it’s available 24/7 and is very good indeed with the responses to any queries being concise, swift and clear.

Mobile & Tablet

Grandbetting is a mobile-optimized site and if betting on the go is your thing – either on a smartphone or a tablet – you are presented with a configuration that is basically a mini-version of the desktop site. It works nicely for both iOS and Android and offers a fine betting experience in terms of navigation, responsiveness and clarity. There is also an Android app available.

Pay-Outs

Cash-out is an automated process on Grandbetting and so this is, generally, at the speedy end of the scale, with pay-outs usually processed within 24 hours.

Final Verdict

Grandbetting bookmaker has lots of good stuff going on. Unlike other sites supported by the same software provider, they have managed to avoid the pitfall of going too big on cartoons and graphics and have kept it classy. First impressions count, and when you navigate to their bookmaker homepage it’s hard not to be impressed by its look and feel. Better still, when you delve deeper you find a site that packs a punch in terms of both the range and depth of bets available.

The design and layout work well, and that it veers slightly away from the norm is no bad thing. Experienced or new punters will find themselves equally at home, and the betting experience is a pleasant one.

We were more than a little disappointed, however, with the bonuses on offer – there is no welcome bonus – but did discover that 15% can be claimed if you follow certain conditions when funding your account. That it’s not advertised as such was more than a little odd, but this shouldn’t detract from its many plus points, such as a terrific live betting service.

Overall, we’d happily recommend Grandbetting bookmaker to anyone wishing to bet with their Turkish Lira.
