While being Italian focused – it’s aimed solely at Italian punters in fact – it still translates nicely into several languages and offers local versions free of odd translations and clumsy wording. It engages almost seamlessly with the English-speaking audience and any translation issues are minimal.

In its formative years, the site was criticised for making virtually no attempt to financially entice new customers and for offering little in the way of bonuses to retain loyal customers, but lessons have been learned. They now offer an enticing array of bonuses and cashback offers for new and existing bettors.

The site’s front face is predominantly aimed at those wishing to bet on sports but sitting neatly behind the bookmaker are all the options and goodies you would expect from a gambling site, including the usual casino and poker offerings.

Betaland offers the wide range of sports you would expect from an established site and some fun bets that you probably wouldn’t anticipate. It also offers a good range of live and ante-post markets.

In Your Face

Betaland Sports doesn’t mess about. There’s a lot going on and they’re bursting to tell you all about it. So much so the home page of the bookie offers you the whole lot in one fell swoop. There is no pretence, no beating around the bush, no easing you into it gently; instead, everything it has to offer is there in front of you in blazing technicolour. And, in fairness, it works.

It delivers because behind the glitzy bonus ads, the colourful links and the enticing imagery there is a solid core. If you can find it among the glitz, everything you would expect of a decent quality bookmaker there on its homepage.

Typically, there is a row of tabs near the top of the page that gives one-click access to each of the site’s eight main features: Sport, Live Betting, Casino, Casino Classic, Live Casino, Poker, Skill Games and Fantasy Sports. We’ll concentrate on the first one.

The first thing to say is that there is no ‘translate’ toggle to worry about if English is your language. It’s automatic and works perfectly for the betting content on the page (let’s not worry about the garish ads), with no need to resort to Google translate.

Today, Tomorrow and the Future

As you would expect, Betaland leads on soccer – why wouldn’t they? – but offers the full gamut of sports from alpine skiing to handball to volleyball and almost everything in between.

The left sidebar does precisely what you expect it to. It offers a single click to events occurring ‘Today’, ‘All Events’, ‘Statistics’, ‘Results’ and a specific ‘Select Date’ option, which allows you to head to a specific day; each single click then filling the full page with the information requested.

What it doesn’t do particularly well – or not at all in some cases – is truncate this data down to only the data that is relevant and live. For example, a click on Today and you get an exhaustive listing of every event in every sport, most of whom will have nothing sitting behind them. Only those in bold offer the bettor an event on which to bet. A relatively minor gripe but a tailored list of only the day’s events would be better.

In effect, there is little difference different between Today and All Events, both giving a complete listing of all the sports and events covered by Betaland.

The Statistics section is provided by Betrader and offers an absolute tonne of data in a huge array of sports and competitions. It’s very impressive even if it does take you outside of Betaland Sports in a new tab.

Bonus Time

Moving to the main body of the home page, and if you can get past the colourful, in-your-face ads that are trying to entice you to take up one of Betaland’s array of bonus offers, there are three sections. The top one lists the live events and takes you with a single click to an in-house page full of odds data and stats on the live match, and if there is one available, a live stream. It’s comprehensive and well presented.

Section two offers match-by-match listings of events that will be taking place later that same day, one click taking you through to a form guide, and section three to a listing of matches that scheduled to occur over the next two days. Again, all nicely presented and with everything you would expect of a reputable sports betting site.

The sidebar on the right of the home screen is, as is pretty much the norm for sites of this kind, home for the betting slip or ‘Coupon’ in this instance. In order to bet you have to be registered with Betaland; a process that involves submitting documents to confirm your ID.

Below the betting slip, they return again to the colourful in-house ads designed to catch the eye (they can hardly fail in that regard) and thrust you towards their Casino, Bingo or Poker options. It’s in your face and laid bare; Betaland does what it says on the tin.

With over 250,000 markets to select from at the time of this review, there is plenty for the bettor to get his or her teeth into on this site. It may not be subtle, but it does the job. The site is relatively easy to navigate and in most cases, a single click will take you where you expect to go. Even for those who don’t frequent bookmakers regularly, there is a clear and logical route to all the goodies the site has to offer, even if you sometimes have to negotiate an ad or two along the way.

If betting on the go is your thing, Betaland Sports delivers. In keeping with most betting sites, the site is compatible with all the latest Android mobile phones, Android tablets, iPhones and iPads. To date, there is no Android or iOS app available but its neat optimisation for mobile and tablets is such that this generally presents few problems.

The Technical Stuff

The bonuses on offer tend to vary but the welcome bonus for new punters is 100% based on up to a €50 original advance, although keep an eye out too for their twice-daily ‘Crazy Hour’, which takes this up to 200%, and the ‘Happy Hour’ multipliers that are on offer. All a far cry from the site’s early days with no incentives to attract new bettors and no rewards for the existing ones.

Another major improvement from the site’s early days is its customer liaison. Back in the day numerous complaints were made around the length of time they took to respond to queries but now with a live chat facility and four separate email accounts – each dealing with different customer issues – this is an area that Betaland, to their credit, has addressed. The live chat is available in English, as well as Italian. There is also a phone number, a fax number and a WhatsApp account for those wishing to send in documents for user activation. Whatever your chosen method of communication, Betaland now has it covered.

As you would expect from a European site, the odds are presented in the digital format and, in fairness, are competitive compared to most of their rivals. As always, it is a question of seeking out, through research, where the value lies but without question, there is value waiting to be discovered on Betaland.

Cash-out is an automated process on Betaland Sports – unless there are queries, IT issues or outstanding documents – and so this is generally at the speedy end of the scale and payouts are invariably processed within 24 hours. Quote: ‘The punctuality in the payments of your winnings is for Betaland.it an absolute priority’.

Final Verdict

Betaland Sports has recovered well reputationally from some dodgy reviews in its early days, many of them down to some poor customer support feedback. This has, in fairness, been addressed and now the operation comes across as far more slick and cohesive than it did, say, five years ago. They hold a licence with the Malta Gaming Authority, acknowledged as one of the best regulators, and their software is reliable and from respected providers.

The site itself does the job but is adorned with in-your-face ads that spoil its overall look. All the information is there though and, even if the presentation is not to everyone’s liking, there is everything the punter needs. The big downside, however, from a wider perspective, is that it’s only available to Italian punters.
